Description

Characteristics of the vineyard
Vineyard of 3.5 ha located in the Sierra Santa Cruz (Sistema Ibérico) on quartzite soils and planted in 1955 (65 years old). Very low yielding vines and 2.3 x 2.3 goblet format. The vineyard has a convex relief, formed by 2 opposing hills and a central vague. The grapes are harvested separately: on one side the hill with a predominantly quartzite soil, on the other the vago harvested independently and finally the other hill with a clayey component and gravel with better water retention and slower ripening.
Characteristics of the vintage:
The vineyard started bud break in 2019 with more water reserves than usual. Two frost episodes took place in April, but the damage was small compared to other vintages. The growing season had perfect conditions in terms of rainfall: little rain but very evenly distributed. As usual, some temperature peaks made the vines suffer. A little rain in September, followed by high temperatures, resulted in rapid ripening in terms of sugar and acidity. Yields in this vineyard were low due to the age of the vineyard, 1500 kg/ha.
